Elizabeth’s
Character in Pygmalion by Barnard
Shaw
Keywords: Intelligent, Confident, Self-respect
Female
protagonist of the play Liza’s character is strong enough to impress the
readers and audience. There are several aspects which strengthen Barnard Shaw’s
point of view in this respect.
Higgins argues that Liza is intelligent and has better
ear than Higgins. After getting success Liza becomes confident even to pass comments on her teachers, Henry
Higgins and Colonel Pickering.
|
She has
objection against Professor Higgins, because he always treated her as a
flower
|
girl. She admires Pickering that it was he who made her
realize that she was duchess. She states that
she knew that she could be a lady , because
|
he always treated her as a lady.
|
She
offers her gratitude for she learnt really nice manners from Pickering which
could make her a lady. She was brought up in a way and was unable to control
over using bad language. She learnt from Pickering that ladies and gentlemen
don’t behave like that.
She threats
Higgins that she will advertize in paper that Higgins’s duchess is only a
flower girl and she can teach anybody to be duchess .A flower girl has made a
tower of inner strength who can threats Higgins. Points out his blunders. She
can appreciate good qualities in Pickering too.
Henry Higgins is happy as he has made her woman in real meanings.
