Professional Skills in Hamlet by Shakespeare

Professional Skills in Hamlet by Shakespeare: Keywords: Professional Definition, Nature of Profession, Career, Occupation, Employ Better service is provided to appeal buyers. Professional definition is a struggle for the sake of earning, name and fame. In most famous play, Hamlet, William Shakespeare exhibits his talents through unique lines. Prince Hamlet can’t write, act or direct drama in a away as Shakespeare does. He started his career as an actor and became the greatest dramatist of time. His work is known throughout the world..Nature of his profession is to write, say words and express naturally. His career demands him to observe and think deeply. Shakespeare can direct the drama very well but Hamlet can’t because it is not his field. His responsibility might be to see his education or keep an eye on state matters. Drama was Shakespeare’s living and interest. He took it as profession but it was not Hamlet’s profession. Being a son of king Hamlet his responsibility is to see state matters or what is happening in palace. Drama Hamlet written by Shakespeare is well composed play in the history of Elizabethan drama. It is obvious prince Hamlet can’t write or give directions as professionally as Shakespeare can. He is successful playwright of that particular age. There are several aspects under consideration. Shakespeare directs actors that dialogue delivery should be natural. Their words should suit to their action and action to words. He advises that with this special overstep is not the modesty of nature. It acquires and begets a temperance that may give it smoothness while performing play on the stage for their particular audience. Only he can say that it offends him to the soul to hear a fellow tear a passion to tatters groundlings because he is employed. Gillian Woods explores how the play unsettles distinctions between performance and reality and how it thus exposes the mechanisms of theatre. Hamlet is prince who is student in university, a learned and a scholar person. He is successor of the kingdom. It seems impossible for him to know in detail about how to perform dialogues and how to act a play very well. Besides a prince can be interested in drama but he can’t know in detail about the audience or what type of audience in actual. All these can be known by Shakespeare but not Hamlet. Conclusion is that there are autobiographical elements in the play through giving directions to actors.

She corrects her children, Walter, Ruth and Beneatha when she thinks they need it. She realizes her responsibilities towards her family very well. There are several aspects which are sufficient to argue in her support.

When she comes to know that Ruth doesn’t want her next child and she is going to destroy the child she advises her to be relax and feel tension free. In this respect she also directs her son that they are the persons who give life to their children but not destroy them. She refers her husband’s sayings when she is convincing her son.

On finding her daughter’s controversial thoughts about religion she minds it and doesn’t like her views. She knows well that faith is a great source of faith in human beings. If a person losses faith he or she can develop negative thinking in mind and in result possibility is to lost personal faith also.
Similarly Beneatha’s low feelings about her brother are disliked by Mama. She reminds her that she and her husband had taught her to love her brother since her childhood. And how she can forget that lesson, parents had given her on any step. She makes her to get things. She argues that a brother can make mistake but it doesn’t mean that he deserves to be hatred or disliked. She will not let him loose his confidence only for the sake of money .Any person can make mistakes in life intentionally or unintentionally but he or she should not be downed. Family members are to rise him up but not to feel him down and degraded.
Everyway mama is maternal head of the family. She feels her responsibility to stand her son as a future head of the family and be confident. She has started to educate him for such purposes successfully as he begins to realize his responsibilities towards his family.

Henry Higgins Idealizes his Mother in Pygmalion by Barnard Shaw

Henry Higgins Idealizes his Mother in Pygmalion by
Barnard Shaw

Keywords: Idealize, Trust, Support
Mr. Higgins seems to idealize his mother as she is mature and wise lady, having worldly wisdom. There are several aspects which show Higgins attachment with his mother.
Mrs. Higgins says that it is a pity that he never falls in love except with the woman who are forty five or above. He replies that he doesn’t wish to be bothered by young women and says his idea of loveable woman is somebody as like is mother as possible. He trusts his mother and goes on to say that he can never fall in love with any young woman. Some habits, he says, are too deep to be changed. He argues that he is used to with his mother and such habits he can’t change at. He needs a woman l similar to his mother in wisdom, judgment and exposure.
Mr. Higgins teaches Liza far from his mother but still he prefers Liza’s performance in her judgment. His mother’s comments about Liza mean to him. Though she doesn’t like his coming while her guests were present at home but still he depends upon her.
He explains her as, “I've a sort of bet on that I'll pass her off as a duchess in six months. I started on her some months ago; and she's getting on like a house on fire. I shall win my bet. She has a quick ear; and she's been easier to teach than my middle-class pupils because she's had to learn a complete.”
It can be observed whenever he is in difficulties he knocks his mother’s door. Twice in the play he connects his mother to get her support. First he wanted to introduce Liza to his mother to get her remarks. Second time he again comes to her to get her support while things are going out of his control he feels need her mother’s support. She calls him as , “you silly boy”.

Mrs. Pearce’s Character in Pygmalion by Barnard Shaw

Mrs. Pearce’s Character in Pygmalion by Barnard Shaw

Keywords: Company, Sensible, Mature
Mrs. Pearce is Higgins’s house keeper. She is plain, blunt kind of woman through her we come to know some of Higgins abnormalities. Higgins is untidy in his habits and makes plentiful use of objectionable words like damn, devil or bloody. She strikes us as a woman considerable knowledge of human nature and much sound sense. She seems to have been in Higgins’s service for the past many years. She has accustomed to all his oddities and eccentricities although she is critical of certain habits of her master. Besides she has a lot of respect for her master.
Mrs. Pearce is a maid but her mental level is high than her capabilities as a servant. There are several aspects which distinguishes her from other characters.
By living in company of learned professor Mrs. Pearce has sufficient knowledge about phonetics. She also knows well what will be the effects on Liza in coming future. What would be the possible problems if she becomes successful. She is sensible and mature. She thinks her responsibility to tell Higgins possible hindrances in the way to success.
She states as, “I ask you not to come down to breakfast in your dressing-gown, or at any rate not to use it as a napkin to the extent you do, sir. And if you would be so good as not to eat everything off the same plate, and to remember not to put the porridge saucepan out of your hand on the clean tablecloth.”
She advises Higgins to be careful about such things while teaching the girl. She knows well what things should be adopted and what should be avoided in teaching a flower girl. She also has courage to express what she realizes. Higgins admits that she is quite right and he would be particularly careful before the girl.

Colonel Pickering in Pygmalion by Barnard Shaw

Colonel Pickering in Pygmalion by Barnard Shaw

 Keywords: Nature, Generous, Co-operative
There are something in nature of human beings which give them benefits. Same way there are some weak points as part of someone’s characterization. Nothing is perfect in the world. Higgins is more intelligent in his professional performance while he has some weak points, a part of his personality.
On the other hand Pickering has positive characteristics in his nature which value him in eye of Liza and Mrs. Pearce as well.  In the end Liza gives credit behind her success there are Pickering’s good manners and his being generous with her. He has been co-operative and encouraging Liza to be confident. Because he made her feel high, valuable and capable.
Liza admires Pickering as , “ that Your calling me Miss
And there were a hundred little things you never
noticed, because they came naturally to you. Things about
standing up and taking off your hat and opening doors.”
Liza likes Pickering’s manners because he respects her and makes her realize that she is respectable in this respect. He doesn’t deal her a flower girl but as a honorable lady or as she is a duchess. Pickering shows responsibility in Liza’s matters. He makes it clear that they would not misuse the girl who wanted to improve her.
He doesn’t forget to appreciate Liza’s performance in aristocratic party. Liza comments that it was Pickering’s goods manners which contributed great in encouraging her females like duchess.

“Oh come! the garden party was frightfully exciting. My
heart began beating like anything.”

Henry Higgins, in Pygmalion by Barnard Shaw

Henry Higgins, in Pygmalion by Barnard Shaw

Keywords: Phonetics, Nature, Drawbacks.

Henry Higgins is a professor of phonetics who teaches Liza to speak properly and behave elegantly. He is a professor of phonetics, science of speech. He is sincere in his work and in teaching. Though Higgins is a successful Professor  but there are several  drawbacks in Higgins’s character

Professor Henry Higgins has many-sided personality, having high merits and irritating deficiencies. He is a scholar of great distinction who has high merits besides having draw backs. He has not good opinion about women that is why still he is bachelor and lives a life as a single .In professor’s opinion woman wants to live her own way and man wants his own way. Each tries to drag the other on to the wrong track. Despite of all that he wants to do experiment on poor flower girl to transform her into a duchess.

Mrs. Pearce, maid servant, points out several drawbacks which she finds mistakes in learning process. She argues it wouldn’t be benefited in learning for Miss Doolittle.  On breakfast he does things which are objectionable and hindrances in learning process for Miss Doolittle. Hamlet’s Character by Shakespeare

Hamlet’s Character by Shakespeare
Hamlet’s character is one of the most complicated characters in the play. He is prince and also the successor of the state. Sometimes he thinks one thing and acts differently. He comes back from the university to attend his father’s funeral ceremonies while he had to see his mother’s marriage on the occasion.
In that hour of grief the person he could trust more was his mother. She was standing on the opposite side with his uncle in wedding. He has been exchanging love feelings through his letters and gifts to Ophelia. She decides to return back gifts, love tokens and letters to him. Ophelia’s father and brother advise her to be disconnected with Hamlet and she accepts it without any hesitation or any objection. Readers or audience are not told about their views before but after king’s death. They forbid Ophelia when Hamlet needed her positive response.
Ophelia admires him that as he is thoughtful, reflective and philosophical. They didn’t talk about before that Ophelia should be alert and keep distance from Hamlet. It seems as all his relations were strengthened due to his father, king Hamlet. King Claudius could be alert from prince hamlet for safety purpose. It seems strange when other close relations shirk eyes and ignore him.
Hamlet exclaims that he wishes he could die, that he could evaporate and cease to exist. He wishes bitterly that God had not made suicide a sin. Anguished, he laments his father’s death and his mother’s hasty marriage to his uncle. He remembers how deeply in love his parents seemed, and he curses the thought that now, not yet two month after his father’s death, his mother has married his father’s far inferior brother.

Hamlet’s Extreme Brooding justifies by Shakespeare

Hamlet’s Extreme Brooding justifies by Shakespeare
Keywords: Brooding, Self-torch, Depression

Hamlet’s learning on this level shouldn’t make him feel guilty. He begins to think that all occasions do inform against him, and spur his dull revenge. He is right in thinking that he needs solid proof whether his uncle murdered his father or not. It is wisdom and sanity as a scholar and a learned person.

He seems self-torched by saying that to sleep and feed is like a beast but no more.
While it can be seen that he is busy in thinking and finding out suspicious things. He takes risk in talking to ghost, feigns as mad man and plans play to trap.

Hamlet can’t be equal the prince who fights for the sake of plot and sheds blood both sides. He compares him with delicate and tender prince who is ambitious to quarrel even for the sake of a single straw. And he begins to feel shame on not showing brutality. He is right and mature in thinking that suspicious things should be justified but not on the cost of brutality.

He seems depressed when he asks himself whether he is coward on having no stir to take revenge. Even he calls himself a villain, wants to break his pate across, plucks off his beard, and blows it on his face. Psychologically such situation of depression doesn’t happen in days, weeks, or months but after living in such depressing environment for years.
Shakespeare may observe himself such low feelings and expressed through the character of Hamlet. As far as concerned Prince Hamlet who is scholar can’t say things to self-punish or self-torch.

Role of Gertrude in Hamlet by Shakespeare

Role of Gertrude in Hamlet by Shakespeare
Keywords: Marriage, Ignorance, State
Hamlet’s mother, queen of Denmark, Gertrude marries to Claudius soon after King Hamlet’s death.  It was need of time to convince Hamlet that his mother was with him in grief. It was critical time for Hamlet and he needs his mother’s attention more than any person in world. There are several aspects which Gertrude seems to ignore completely.
First, Hamlet is thirty years old, a mature person. It is not sufficient justification that marriage was very important to see the state matters and face enemies. If queen would marry after reasonable time still she should give clarifications to Hamlet on getting re-marriage.
Second, parents and children have strong relation between them. She doesn’t get it necessary to talk or share with him personally. She seems Claudius’s wife rather than late King’s wife or prince Hamlet’s mother.
Third, Gertrude could think about Hamlet’s marriage with Ophelia. It would be far better than her own marriage. The conversation between them doesn’t seem as they are mother and son. It seems formal talk like artificial feelings. She could talk him in his privacy where they could talk in better way.
Forth, females of royal family have been playing their specific roles which they know well. They are moral support behind their males. They are guard of their feelings and passions but are alert about their responsibilities; particularly mothers are responsible about males and their training and education. They are not ignorant about their obligations.
Fifth, masses are very fond of their king and about the royal family members. She feels her responsibility towards new relation with Claudius more than her relation with late king, prince Hamlet or her responsibility towards masses who have great attachment with late king, queen and prince Hamlet.
Usually queen has her responsibilities towards royal family and state as well. After her king’s death her first obligation was to care of her son who is also the successor. Her son should be her priority which she seems to ignore. Claudius was brother of late King he could see the state matters without making marriage. To make marriage seems not as necessary as it is argued in the play.
Gertrude loves Hamlet deeply, but she is a shallow, weak woman who seeks affection and status more urgently than moral rectitude or truth. It is criticized as, “Gertrude reveals no guilt in her marriage with Claudius after the recent murder of her husband.”

Role of Ophelia in Hamlet by Shakespeare

Role of Ophelia in Hamlet by Shakespeare
Keywords: Love, Gifts, Retreat
Ophelia decides to leave Hamlet and return love tokens back when he needed her more. She promises her father and brother that she will obey them and will have no connection with Hamlet. There are several aspects which seem awkward in this respect.

First, she has been getting gifts and tokens of love from Hamlet. They both seemed to have mutual understanding for their love feelings. Hamlet had a critical time on his father’s death and his mother’s marriage on this occasion.

Second, this news was a not a normal news and everyone should be shocked including Ophelia, Polonious, Laertes or from specific person to common man. Such things can’t be justified that there were  strategies behind  marriage so soon after Late king’s death.

Third, Claudius is brother of late king and uncle of the successor. He is not a stranger or outsider but can supervise the things without having marriage.

Forth, Ophelia retreats as, “ my lord, I have remembrances of yours,
that I have longed long to re-deliver;
I pray you, now receive them
” .

Question arises, whether Ophelia had no other proper time to be disconnected with Hamlet. It was not the time like this, he needed moral support or to share things .There was no body to hear him neither his mother, nor beloved and uncle also.

Hamlet is mature person and mother should clear things before marriage, even in normal situation.

On the other hand Ophelia takes gifts of love happily in past. Definitely she didn’t ask father or brother that she should receive gifts or not. As far as concerned expected queen in future she should be sensible, brave and courageous.
Fifth, she is mature and had right to love. In such critical situation Ophelia’s father or brother could encourage her to console him. She could share with him the problems he had to face. To marry immediately and pronounce the marriage and announcement of Claudius as a king were as surprising for others as it was for Hamlet or Ophelia. A critic states, “Polonius trying to use his daughter's charms to suit his underhanded purposes.
.

Hamlet is not a Playwright by Shakespeare

Hamlet is not a Playwright by Shakespeare
Direction, Compose, Spectators
First, Hamlet states that dialogue delivery shouldn’t be too tamed, but let their own discretion be their tutor. They suit action to the words and words to the action. He advises that with this special overstep is not the modesty of nature.
Gillian Woods explores how the play unsettles distinctions between performance and reality and how it thus exposes the mechanisms of theatre.
Hamlet is told a prince who is student in university, a learned and a scholar person. He is successor of the kingdom. It seems out of question to know in detail about how to perform dialogues and how to act a play very well. Besides a prince can have interest to see drama but he doesn’t know in detail about the audience what type of they are actually. All these can be known by Shakespeare but not Hamlet. It is concluded that there are autobiographical elements in the play.
Hamlet may see stage drama performance. It is possibility also that he knows well about the audience, their expectations from players and writers as well. But he can’t be a part of directors or players who perform on stage very well.

Feminism in Jew of Malta by Christopher Marlowe:

Feminism in Jew of Malta by Christopher Marlowe:
Keywords: Courageous, Love, Loyalty
Abigale is honor of faminhood. She manfully helps her father in getting out the money quietly. She can’t do it openly but she manages it hiddenly. Courageously she comes with flying flags. Throughout the play she is honest and devoted to father and to convent.
However, Abigail is in many ways a romantic heroine whose relative goodness contrasts with the depravity of those around her like Jew and Christian. Love feelings are very personal feelings. Nobody likes to interfere in such feelings but she prefers her father and ignores her love passions.
Abigail is the only character who displays genuine love, loyalty, and selflessness in the play. Above all, she remains unmotivated by money and appears to have some kind of moral code. Abigail's dedication to Barabas is proved by her vow to remain loyal to him. She is brave and bold.

Abigail remains doubtful about the virtues and vices exposed by the priests. She has complaints against the people around in world, in her house, in her family, political people and church people. She begins to believe that "there is no love on earth” , “Pity in Jews, nor piety in Turks,". James R. Siemon notes that Abigail undergoes a final recognition of her own predicament that is a feature of tragic drama. She sees no truth and faith in the people of church. She refers to is a religious or racial difference. Her father breaks her trust upon men. Again her father breaks her faith in love and family bounds.
However, Abigail is in many ways a romantic heroine whose relative goodness contrasts with the depravity of those around her—Jew and Christian alike. As with his other characters, Marlowe obscures Abigail's morals and motivations in order to complicate our responses to this character.

Comparison between Father and Daughter in Jew of Malta by Christopher Marlowe:

Comparison between Father and Daughter in Jew of Malta by Christopher Marlowe:
Keywords: Contrast, Devoted, Deceive
There is a great difference between Barabas and Abigale, father and daughter. As far as concerned characteristics and qualities they both stand contrast each other. Both are opposite poles in this respect. Father is extreme selfish while daughter is extreme selfless. She can’t think for the benefits of herself throughout the play. He can do anything for others. There are several aspects which show her honesty and sincerity.
First, in starting she takes bold step in collecting his wealth. She adopts new get up, poses as to enter in convent. She seems like a man in getting back her father’s wealth successfully. While on the other hand Barabas worships his wealth and can cross all limitations for the sake of wealth. She doesn’t give any false accuses to avoid this difficult work to perform. At night she is successful in getting all Barabas wealth hidden in the ground of the building.
Second, on the other hand Barabas is ready, all the time, to deceive others. While on the other hand father doesn’t care of the difficulties she had to face while pretending, posing, and acting. He cares only for his wealth but not for his daughter while she cares of her father but not care of herself throughout the play.
Third,  Abigale is young and has love passions for her lover. She ignores those love feelings for the sake of her father. She obeys and follows whatever he asks her to do. He doesn’t care that Abigale in the convent and if he is sending poisoned food to the nuns she could be poisoned. He seems more worried about the truth she could reveal to the priests.
Abigail finds Barabas's role in the young men's deaths. Grief-stricken, Abigail enters the convent to take shelter. When Barabas finds out what Abigail has done, he is enraged, and decides to poison food to the nuns. Both are of different nature. Father is selfish daughter is selfless. Father thinks about himself daughter never gives importance to herself. She is devoted while Barabas deceives others all the time.
