why girls do grip handbags by Philips Larkin in "The Whitsun Wedding"

“Why Girls do Grip Tighter the Handbags” by
Phillip Larkin in “The Whitsun Weddings”
“The Whitsun Weddings” by Phillips Larkin, one of the best poems had been written in satirical tone as poet was more famous for satirical work. Poet drew a real picture of a railway journey in poem. He was going to attend Whitsun’s weddings with other people. A line seems to have various meanings as,
“While girls, gripping their handbags tighter”
Question arises, why girls have tighter grip their bags rather holding it normally. Whether the bags were rare or things, in bags, were precious that girls were holding bags tightly. There might be some possible reasons.
Firstly money can be present in bags as it is necessary element while going out. Secondly edibles as water bottle, biscuit or candies are considered important in bags while going far. Thirdly, no way, not keep a gift for bride and groom in bag. Moreover in hot weather, a hand fan is benefited in bag.
The girls never forget cosmetics in bag as comb, mirror, lipstick, face powder, tissue paper, handkerchief, safety pin, hair pin etc. Perspiration spoils make-up and air to hair in train. Such things in bags are helpful in re-setting face make-up and hair style. Mothers advise girls to look attractive as mothers of young boys as well as of girls are looking for suitable matches for them. They have handbags with important things that is why they have tight grip upon them.
Besides bags in fashion and matching with dress color enhance the beauty of girls for what they care more .Bags carry useful items for them so they may have grip tightly on bags during railway journey, though unconsciously.

Repetition of Ten in “Refugee Blues” by W.H. Auden

Repetition of Ten in “Refugee Blues” by W.H. Auden
In Refuges Blues W.H. Auden lamented the political injustice as main theme of the poem is abuse of human rights in world. This poem was written on the pattern of blue song which was introduced, first time, in southern states of USA, particularly, for describing the miseries of the slaves. Simple language was used with three lines of each stanza and repetition of the third line. Later on the pattern of blue song became popular all over the world to express inner feelings in a simple way.
He uses word “my dear” in every third line giving a sense of sharing with very close persons who were in same worst situation. Like opening his heart with fellows he seems to comfort them by addressing them as “ my dear” in each stanza.
He uses word “ten” skillfully in the poem as he relates ten, ten hundred, ten thousand and ten million in lines variously. There are four sentences in which the word “ten” has been used technically as “ten”, “ten hundred”, “ten thousand” and “ten million” in the poem. For example  “ten feet” away the fishes were swimming, he dreamed of a building with “ten hundred” doors, “ten thousand” soldiers marched and “ten million” souls lived in a city to enhance the beauty of  poem .

Prufrock and Hamlet Confronted in “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T. S .Eliot

Prufrock and Hamlet Confronted in “The Love Song of J.

Alfred Prufrock” by T. S .Eliot

In, “The love song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T. S. Eliot, the lady ridiculed Prufrock’s love passions and said, “ that is not what I meant at all”(110).It hurts Prufrock and he replies by saying, “nor was meant to be”(111). He seems to say that he also doesn’t mean it If she doesn’t mean it. Both lines end with having same expressions by both persons; lady and Prufrock.
Further He contradicted that he is not like Prince Hamlet who would say, “I loved Ophelia .Forty thousand brothers could not with all their quantity of love.” He wants to say that he is not dying for the sake of lady if she loves him not. It can’t be one sided but it is possible if both sides are interested each other. He does not want to be ashamed or humiliated incase he is rejected by the lady because rejection would be out of his tolerance totally.
I’m not like Prince Hamlet in status, manners and language. Words spoken by Pirnce Hamlet are rich and elegent.I can never be like Prince Hamlet .it is true that I have ability in using maxims and proverbs in my work .when I do well I gets appreciation and when I ridiculed ,I feel down as sometimes I can’t do it properly.
He also compares himself with Hamlet as both are lingering and delaying in making decision. Both are in dilemma, they do visions, decisions and revisions several time but not taking action. Both are reminded, Hamlet by outside elements and Prufrcok by inner love passion.Prufrock fails to take decision still at the end of the poem he is unable to say what he wants actually.

Actually there is a great difference between him and Hamlet. Hamlet was forced to take revenge by outward events as he was noble by nature while urge to express love passions was in Prufrock’s instinct being a human being but he oppressed his love feelings due to inferiority representing modern age. Struggle and tussle between natural feelings and imposed things are equally painful as nature is confronted unnatural things. Both characters have to press and oppress their real feelings Modern age.

Prince Hamlet is not a Playwright in"Hamlet"by William Shakespeare

Prince Hamlet is not a Playwright in"Hamlet"by William Shakespeare

Hamlet was the prince of Denmark but not a playwright by profession at all .He was a scholar, learned and intellectual person who could give the main theme of the play as was his requirement but not to  direct the play on stage in the way an expertise do. This play-within-play further helps the dramatist to reveal his own theories of playacting through the tongue of Hamlet.

Having vast knowledge of field the playwright writes as, “many of your players do”, “as town-crier spoke lines and split the ears of the groundlings”. “It offends me to the soul” and “I would have such a fellow whipped”. Such expressions could not be come out of Hamlet who belongs to the royal family. He was incapable for directing the play so skillfully like killing the king without proof. Both neither were in his nature nor might profession. He do for the welfare of his masses as was his mind set.

Only an expertise have courage and confidence to address to the professional actors imperatively as,” speak the speech, as I pronounced to you.” ,  “suit the action to the world, the world to the action ,you overstep not the modesty of  nature.” , “But not too tame neither” but not an unprofessional though he is learned and intellectual.

Words are spoken spontaneously as, “O reform it altogether” as he used to say in his routine in which he is insisting, commanding and directing. Besides what to speak, how to speak ,what to convey, what to hide ,what to express, what follows the nature and what against the  nature solely great play director can guide.

Hamlet is a mouthpiece of Shakespeare in play-within-play.  It reveals autobiographical elements but unconsciously. Otherwise he never seems mix personal life with his professional life almost in all his plays.
